Supplies for DIY number blocks:

-Wooden blocks (The Dollar Store)

-Magnetic adhesive sheets (Michaels Craft Store)

-Scissors

Directions for making counting blocks:

-Cut adhesive strips into small squares (equal to the size of side block)

-Peel off the adhesive and attach magnet to both polar sides of the cube.

-Repeat this process.

-Continue to link the blocks together until you have a group of 10.

What can we learn from counting blocks?

The magnets help to convey that during addition, the number values are grouped together and summated. Furthermore, by breaking apart the magnetically grouped blocks, this physically demonstrates the literal “break off” or subtraction from the group.  I hope this knowledge will help empower your kid to be a great learner! Have fun!
